Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse

The Next Generation Nepsus Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse Process

The Nepsus CBUM process is based on primarily the separation of filterable solids from the sewage rather than the traditional method of using bacteria as the primary process method to degrade and remove a significant portion of the solids and dissolved contaminants from raw sewage.

·          The initial Nepsus process employs a Preliminary Separator to extract 70% of the solids from the waste stream and convert them to a drycake sludge.

·          Then the first Continuous Backwash Upflow Media (CBUM) Filtration Vessel uses a food-grade organic polymer to form a semi-permeable gel barrier in combination with a sand filtration to remove 98% of the remaining filterable solids. The process is augmented by natural and robust biological activity.

·          Next, a bio-reactor tank is used, when required, to convert ammonia and nitrate/nitrite compounds to nitrogen gas and water.

·          A second CBUM Filtration Vessel is used to further removed particulates to polish the treated water

·          The resulting effluent is suitable for irrigation, other non-potable reuse or discharge to surface water. A disinfection process step can be added when required.

This unique process combination allows the system to operate without blowers at an unprecedented level of energy efficiency, and virtually odor free.

Unlike other systems, the Nepsus CBUM wastewater treatment and water reuse process is provided as a complete pre-engineered, modular treatment facility.

The small module configuration processes up to 225 m3/d and, without redundancy, can occupy a footprint as small as 55 m2. Similarly, the large module system processes up to 950m3/d and can be housed in as little as 100 m2. Multiple modules, up to 8 trains per PLC control unit, configured to operate in parallel, are capable of treating up to 7,500 m3/d. Multiple parallel units can be configured to achieve any processing capacity.

Nepsus Environmental, LLC has recently brought the patented system to the US market following extensive research and development. Desal Systems Pty Ltd has exclusive rights to manufacture and introduce the technology to Australia.
